Der mittelalterliche Turm in Hospental ist weit herum gut sichtbar und prägt das Landschaftsbild des Urserntals. Die Burganlage wurde um das Jahr 1277 erbaut. Sie thront auf einem gut einsehbaren Hügelsporn an der Gotthardpassroute, die im 13. Jahrhundert aufblühte. Die Besitzer des Turms amteten als Verwalter des Tals im Dienst des Klosters Disentis und des deutschen Kaisers.

Der Turm von Hospental ist eines von über 50 Urner Baudenkmäler von nationaler Bedeutung. Als Teil unserer Baukultur ist er geschützt, damit ihn noch zahlreiche nachfolgende Generationen erleben können.

Eine Aussichtsplattform lädt Interessierte dazu ein, in die Geschichte des Turms einzutauchen und das fantastische Panorama zu geniessen. Der Einbau der Plattform mit Treppenkonstruktion veranlasste den Kanton Uri im Jahr 2021 dazu, eine archäologische Notgrabung durchzuführen. Dabei liessen sich unter anderem die bis zu 1,3 m breite Umfassungsmauer, die mit dem Turm erbaut wurde, sowie Bau-, Nutzungs- und Abbruchschichten nachweisen.

Der Turm ist das ganze Jahr über rund um die Uhr geöffnet. Das Betreten erfolgt auf eigene Gefahr und ist bei Blitz und Gewitter verboten. Geführte Touren können bei Andermatt-Urserntal Tourismus gebucht werden (Dorftour Hospental und Turmwächter-Tour).

Clearly visible from afar, Hospental’s mediaeval tower dominates the landscape of the Ursern Valley. Built in about 1277, it stands impressive and prominent on a hilltop on the Gotthard Pass route, which flourished in the 13th century. The tower’s owners acted as administrators of the valley in the service of the Monastery of Disentis and the German Emperor.

The tower of Hospental is one of over 50 architectural monuments of national importance in Uri. As part of our architectural culture, it is protected so that numerous future generations can still experience it.

A viewing platform invites those interested to immerse themselves in the history of the tower and enjoy the fantastic panorama. The installation of the platform, which features a stairway structure, prompted the Canton of Uri to carry out an emergency archaeological excavation in 2021. Traces of the enclosure wall, built at the same time as the tower and up to 1.3 metres wide, as well as functional areas and demolished elements, were discovered in the process. The tower is open all year round. Entry is at visitors’ own risk and is prohibited in the event of lightning and thunderstorms.
